SafeWord UNIX-Safe is a computer security system that positively verifiesthe identity of users attempting to log in to any UNIX system. UNIX-Safeaccomplishes this through dynamic PassWord technology, permitting loginsonly after the user provides a single-use, dynamic PassWord, availableonly from a hand-held, electronic PassWord generator called Token.Standard UNIX security remains unchanged.A Supervisor controls access with any combination of dynamic PassWords;fixed passwords; password aging; time, date, and day-of-week locks; logonlimits; and attack lockout (limiting the number of consecutiveunsuccessful login attempts on one account).UNIX-Safe maintains complete audit logs of all logins and attemptedlogins, which are available only to the system Supervisor. Tokenscurrently supported include the SafeWord MultiSync card, the SafeWordAccessCard, the SafeWord Key and Decoders, the WatchWord, and theSecurNet Key as well as time-synchronous and biometric devices. UNIX-Safeis invoked from the shell field of the password file. Any user failing topass the ID verification check is left without a shell.
